Discipleship Workshop with Wayne Durksen – COMING UP March 29th

We are pleased to be partnering with  Manitou Evangelical Free Church to offer this workshop in Neilburg, SK on March 29th, 9AM-3PM.  There will be lunch and coffee provided.

As you know, our kids are growing up in a time and setting where they are being bombarded with inaccurate messages which are shaping their beliefs and world view. As disciple makers (this is the goal of every Christian parent), we need to understand the principles that are essential for making disciples of our kids and those kids who we have influence over. This year we are pleased to be bringing Wayne Durksen of Kids Matter Leadership in to teach some of those principles and to help parents begin to parent with purpose and direction. While this material is geared for parents, it is applicable to anyone who will be an influencer of young lives.plant_in_hand

Camp Fun Day!

What better way to spend a beautiful fall day then playing games and having fun with 67 age 7-11 year old campers!  This Saturday we had our Camp Fun Day where we reunite with our youngest campers and meet with new friends they had invited to see what camp is all about.  There was much excitement from both staff and campers as we started the day off.

Stinky Pete made an unexpected visit to camp with “his” silliness of spreading garbage all around the camp.  This put everyone in motion for capturing “him” and cleaning up camp, while discovering that our grounds were also covered in gold!  What a wonderful time we had playing Gold Rush in our fall scenery!

Later in the day we gathered to share a meal together and laugh about our afternoon adventures and to hear the amazing truths about who our God is and how we are to love and put him first in our lives.   When we understand who God is and how we are to live with him, we can be used in great ways for his ministry.  This was demonstrated through an illustration of a small kernel being transformed into delicious popcorn!

Thank you campers and staff for making this a great Camp Fun Day and we hope to see you next year for more fun at camp!!  Keep checking our site for other events and for our 2014 summer camp dates.

Memories Formed and Lives Changed at Teen Camp

Teen 2 IMG_7018

It’s hard to believe that summer is over and fall is on its way! This year we ended our summer at Manitou with our Teen Camp. This is one of our favourite weeks of camp as it gives us the opportunity to see many teens that have been faithfully coming out to camp since they’ve been little. What a joy it is to see how God has been working in their hearts throughout the years!

On Monday night for supper we had a front lawn barbeque which was a huge hit with the campers. Many of the staff and campers that have been connected with Manitou for years said that having a meal on the front lawn reminded them of back when the old dining hall was still down the hill where the tuck shop now sits. Our other special suppers included an international asian meal, as well as our Friday night camp banquet.

One of the highlights of the week among many of our campers was our worship night. We extended the length of our chapel time on Wednesday night and had the teens spend some time worshipping God in various ways. There were stations set up around the chapel where students could do a variety of activities that were designed to draw students into reflection about their walk with God. We ended the evening with a time of singing. Many of the campers responded positively to this night and said that it was a highlight for them and was very beneficial for helping them reconnect with God.

It was a great joy to see many returning campers and a few new faces this year. It was such an encouragement to see God working in these young lives. Our speaker for the week was Brad Klassen and he challenged us through stories—and through an amazing improv skit about Shadrach Meshach and Abednego!—to be dedicated followers of Christ.

Campers, please don’t let the amazing experiences and growth you had at camp this summer stay dormant until next year. Get connected with a family of believers who will love and support you as you grow in your faith. Spend time reading and meditating over God’s Word and prayerfully ask Him to lead and guide you. Continue to persevere in your faith, leaning on Jesus Christ for His power and strength.

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:6-7).

I look forward to seeing you all again next year!
